Venue: REACT Offices, 2 Mallview Terrace, Armagh
This course consists of 6 workshops (7 – 9pm) and 2 study visits.
Participants will examine the following events and their impact on the Island of Ireland.
Thursday 11th May 2017 - Catholic Emancipation and Home Rule
Thursday 18th May 2017 - Crises and Volunteers (Redmond and Carson)
Thursday 25th May 2017 - Blood Sacrifice: Easter Rising and WW1 - The Somme
Thursday 1st June 2017 - War of Independence and Partition
Thursday 8th June 2017 - Irish Civil War and Civil Strife in Northern Ireland
Thursday 15th June 2017 - "The Troubles" and Course Evaluation
Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th May 2017 – Study Visit 1 - Dublin - This is an overnight residential which includes visits to Glasnevin Cemetery, Arbour Hill Cemetery, the Memorial Gardens at Island Bridge, the National Museum at Collins Barracks and the Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square.
Saturday 3rd June 2017 – Study Visit 2 - This is a 1 day visit to Parliament Buildings at Stormont, St Anne's Cathedral, Belfast and The Somme Museum.
There is a fee of £30 for the course payable on the first night.
There are two eligibility criteria that all participants must meet:
1. They must be actively involved in their community so that they can share the learning.
2. They must be able to attend all workshops and the study visits (except for illness which is unforeseeable).
The course is organised by Marion Jamison, Community Relations Officer for REACT and Charmain Jones, Community Relations Officer for RCN, funded by the Reconciliation Fund of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Dublin and delivered by Martin Snoddon from Northern Spring.
