Advancing Peace Through Housing | NICRC

The Northern Ireland Federation of Housing Associations hosted a study visit to Brussels for Housing Associations across Northern Ireland. 

The event, which took place 21-23 May 2025, showcased best practice within the sector and was hosted in partnership with The Executive Office in Brussels. 

The visit included a reception at The Executive Office in Brussels under the theme of ‘Advancing Peace Through Housing’ which included a series of presentations highlighting the role of housing associations in integrating communities in Northern Ireland and building peace. 

Panellists Laura’ O’Dowd, Ark Housing Association, Pol Callaghan, Clanmil Housing and Ruth Buchanan, Rural Housing Association provided presentations on their experience of delivering the ‘Housing for All’ programme, funded through the Northern Ireland Housing Executive. 

The presentations from panel members highlighted examples of best practice with a focus on the positive impact of ‘Housing for All’ in terms of building more integrated and connected communities across the region and explained how inclusive and well-managed housing can act as a vital cornerstone for community building and social integration. 

The event was compered by Aodhán Connolly, Director of European Division & Head of Office of NI Executive in Brussels, with guests including MEPs, Secretary General of Housing Europe and Housing advocates from across Belgium, alongside Housing Association staff from Northern Ireland.
