Rural Voices: digital archive of rural stories | RCN

Rural life in Northern Ireland | NICRC

Rural Community Network (RCN) is seeking contributions to Rural Voices – a new project led by RCN in partnership with the Nerve Centre.

RCN and the Nerve Centre are supported by CRC through its Core Funding Scheme.

Rural Voices

Rural Voices aims to be a digital archive of rural stories from across Northern Ireland, inspired by the last 100 years.

The Rural Voices project is seeking personal accounts from rural community groups and individuals about all aspects of rural living:

  • What defines where you live?
  • Are you new to living in this part of the world?
  • How has your rural community changed (or not) in the past 100 years?
  • What makes you proud to be a rural dweller?

Past, present and future

The project will create a digital archive of rural voices from across the country, talking about the past, present and future of their area. Some of these rural stories will then be transformed into a digital animation, capturing those accounts, which will be showcased at the end of March 2022 along with an interactive online platform.

RCN is keen to capture as wide a range of diverse rural voices as possible and welcome contributions from all sections of the rural community, including BAME, LGBTQ+, women, sporting organisations, key institutions, business, agriculture, border communities, etc.
