LEVEL 1 COURSE - ‘Introducing U-S’ (Ulster-Scots)

This Level 1 course is designed to provide a basic - and very interactive - view of Ulster-Scots history and culture.

Topics covered include:

‘What it means to be Ulster-Scot’; this is a fully interactive evening with group discussions exploring perceptions of identity and some archaeology;

‘An Overview of the Plantation’; this gives a summary of the Plantation over Ulster, including a locally-relevant portion introducing some family names;

Two choices from lists of titles; both titles will have been voted on by participants at the end of Session 1. Each choice has an inbuilt interactive element, whether quiz, debate or active investigation. The most popular choices have been the genealogy and language titles.

‘U-S & Kith and Kin’ – an exploration of how local family names fit into early local history
‘Talking with U-S’ – a fully interactive exploration of the Ulster-Scots language and its evolution and change within Ulster, including poetry and drama.

Spaces are limited so please email Charmain@ruralcommunitynetwork.org or ring 028 8676 6670 if you wish to take part.

Please note that if you wish to do the accreditation, this will also have to be self-funded at a cost of £26 which you can decide at the end of the programme
