Falls Council | An agreed way forward for bonfires?

Event date(s): -
Four hands each holding a jigsaw piece coming together | NICRC

The FICT commission remarkably achieved agreement between all the parties on a way forward on bonfires. The commission acknowledged the wish of people to have a bonfire as a form of cultural celebration or commemoration but noted that bonfires currently take place in an unclear legal environment. The commission set out recommendations for bonfires to take place in a legal manner ensuring safety and respect for all.

This talk will debate these proposals.

Speakers:

  • Professor Dominic Bryan, co-chair of the FICT Commission
  • Dale Pankhurst, unionist commentator and former DUP councilor.
  • Conor Maskey, Sinn Fein councillor.

Chair: Avila Kilmurray, Social Change Initiative.
