The Ulster People's College is dedicated to education and training for development. It aims to:
Support those groups and individuals concerned with removing social, economic and political inequalities; Provide a safe and secure environment where plurality of opinion is respected; Explore the structural forces responsible for inequality, discrimination and prejudice; Strengthen the capacity of groups and individuals to combat disadvantage and discrimination; Enable social and community action on common projects and goals as an end in itself and as a method of undermining sectarian images and prejudices; Encourage greater participation by local people in decisions affecting their everyday lives; Broaden horizons, develop understanding and increase solidarity.
Projects and Activities
The Ulster People's College emphasises work with communities, organisations and groups of people and its aim to serve all organisations representing the community. It has particular expertise in skill enhancement and development of leaders, key workers and trainers in the voluntary and community sector and community development training for civil and public servants. The UPC specialises in education and training programmes in:
i) Community Development - encompassing community development, community economic development and; ii) Community relations, political education and citizenship.
