Call for Participants for Lisburn & Castlereagh City Councils Good Relations Holocaust Memorial Day 2019 Programme

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Councils Good Relations Programme invites applications from community/voluntary group members active in the field of culture, identity and history for participation in a capacity-building project running from September 2018 to January 2019. This will be delivered in both Lisburn/Castlereagh through pre-examination workshops on the Holocaust also including learning new skills with smartphone technology, a residential to Krakow and surrounding areas of interest and finished off with post-trip workshops, developing an exhibition from material sourced on the residential to launch on Holocaust Memorial Day in January 2019.

Funded in part, by the Executive Office's District Councils Good Relations Programme, this project offers an opportunity for a limited number of community group members to engage in a residential programme around the Holocaust, designed to enhance their organisation's capacity to develop cross-community, international and cross-cultural activities and partnerships. 

Participating community group members will complete a 4 day long funded programme in Poland whilst also committing to the pre and post programme workshops.

Participants must be available and able to travel to Poland during the months of September to November 2018 (date to be confirmed). Travel, accommodation and programme costs are funded by the programme.

Programme Outline

This three-part project aims to improve the capacity of individuals linked to community group members involved in the field of cultural exploration, history and understanding. It is envisaged that the programme will help people to challenge prejudice, promote tolerance and embrace cultural diversity in society, highlighting what can happen if prejudice and racism become acceptable.

Applications are welcome from all parts of the community, especially from organisations working with minority ethnic communities.
