The Community Relations Council has today invited applications for Cultural Diversity Fellowship Awards. The awards, up to the value of £12,000 each, are available for individual research projects on themes of cultural diversity in Northern Ireland.
"The Cultural Diversity Programme of the Community Relations Council promotes a positive awareness of the rich variety of cultures existing in Northern Ireland," according to Dr Tony Langlois, CRC's Cultural Diversity Officer. "It is intended that the fellowships should lead to the production of resources which will assist in the Council's work of creating respect for and understanding of cultural diversity."
The Cultural Diversity Fellowships are awarded annually by the Community Relations Council. Previous holders of the awards have included Neil Jarman and Dominic Bryan, who are now well-known authorities and commentators on the issue of parades, and the journalist Suzanne Breen. Resources which have resulted from previous fellowships include CRC's Young Person's Guide to Cultural Diversity, the Ulster Wean's A-Z (an alphabet book for young children) and an archive catalogue of political posters and leaflets of the Troubles held at the LinenHall Library in Belfast.
No particular topics have been set for this year's fellowships other than the general theme of cultural diversity. Research projects could include anything from language and sport to youth culture and local identity.
The closing date for applications is Friday 2nd June.
