Launch of 'Beyond Sectarianism?: The Churches and Ten Years of the Peace Process'
The Community Relations Council (CRC) is pleased to announce the launch of 'Beyond Sectarianism?: The Churches and Ten Years of the Peace Process', volume 1 of the 'Learning from Peace ll' Project. Delivered in conjunction with the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB), this project is the first coordinated attempt to gauge the impact of the Peace ll Programme across the entire range of constituent sectors involved in Peace and Reconciliation work in both Northern Ireland and the Border Counties of Ireland.
'Beyond Sectarianism?: The Churches and Ten Years of the Peace Process' (pictured left) emanates from a churches' conference held in Portadown last October. It contains contributions from David Stevens (Leader, Corrymeela
Community), Diane Holt (Community Development / Relations Officer, The Link, Newtownards), research by the Centre for Contemporary Christianity in Ireland and a critical reflection on the topic by Dr Geraldine Smyth (Irish School of Ecumenics). It is hoped that the learning contained in this publication will be disseminated widely to Britain, Ireland and beyond. CRC Chief Executive, Dr Duncan Morrow commented, “In a society like Northern Ireland, the role of religion in Peace Building remains critical. This publication is an opportunity to reflect on current trends in light of the EU's huge investment in PEACE ll”.
Copies are being widely distributed to many of those already involved in church based peace building work, however if you have not received a copy, or would like additional ones, they can be downloaded from www.community-relations.org.uk . A limited number are also available from the CRC Resource Centre, telephone 028 90 227555.
