The Community Relations Council (CRC) welcomes the publication and announcement today of 'A Shared Future', the Government's Policy and Strategic Framework for Good Relations in Northern Ireland.
'This publication, which takes place after wide consultation over a long period, has been eagerly awaited by the Community Relations Council,' says Duncan Morrow, CRC Chief Executive. 'A government strategy for good relations is an essential part of the building of stability in Northern Ireland. There is no alternative to a shared future if we are to step away from the destruction and damage of the past'.
'The Council shares the objectives outlined in the Framework and is pleased that Government intends to lead by example by setting a strong public policy agenda to promote good relations. The Council looks forward to the development of the detailed action plans which are due to be produced by the autumn'.
'We particularly welcome the enhanced role and functions which the Framework allocates to the Community Relations Council and the opportunities and partnerships which this creates to help build a shared future. The Council is fully committed to make the new process work'.
