Review of Community Relations Policy and Practice in Northern Ireland

28 January 2003

The Community Relations Council (CRC) welcomes the Review of Community Relations Policy and Practice in Northern Ireland which was launched today by the Minister Des Browne from the Office of the First and Deputy First Minister.

According to Duncan Morrow, Chief Executive of CRC,

'The Community Relations Council shares the view that the vision of a shared society rather than a segregated one offers the best way forward for Northern Ireland. We welcome this government review of community relations policy and practice and the Council will be contributing positively to the development of a comprehensive response."

Dr Morrow added: "The review grows out of a recognition that the political map in Northern Ireland has changed and that community relations policy, practice and structures cannot remain static in the transition from conflict to unpredictable peace. We hope that the six month consultation process throughout Northern Ireland will engage as many people as possible in shaping the future."
