The Community Relations Council has welcomed the attendance of First Minister Peter Robinson at the Gaelic football final in Armagh on Saturday.
“This symbolic gesture on the part of the leader of the DUP is an important mark of respect and recognition of cultural diversity. It is a small step but a significant one in the development of a new normality where unionists and nationalists can share in each others’ cultural life without it becoming a news event. It is also an indication of how much the GAA has moved to make itself more open and inclusive and demonstrates that sport can be an important means of cohesion across the whole community.”
