Interface violence
Following the violent confrontations and rioting in East Belfast earlier this week the Community Relations Council yesterday called together community representatives from across the city, together with key statutory agencies, to discuss the situation.
Almost 100 people attended from both sides of the community and unanimously condemned the violence. The meeting, which took place at the Spires Conference Centre in Belfast city centre, heard calls for calm and expressions of determination not to let the violent attacks in Short Strand and Lower Newtownards Road undermine all the good community relations work that has been taking place both there and at other interfaces across the city.
The Community Relations Council undertook to bring issues raised at the meeting to forthcoming meetings of the OFMDFM-led North Belfast Ministerial Working Group and the CRC-led Interface Working Group.
