The Community Relations Council has condemned the murder of PSNI officer Ronan Kerr in Omagh.
Duncan Morrow, Chief Executive of the Community Relations Council, says:
“The murder of Ronan Kerr, a young Catholic PSNI officer, by a bomb attack on his car is a tragedy for his family and friends and for the entire local community. His decision to join the police reflected a determination by a young man to help shape a new Northern Ireland and a new police service which could help build a shared society no longer dominated by the division and conflict of the past.
This murder is an attack on all those who want to build an open and shared society founded on human rights for all. The whole community is appalled by this naked attempt to intimidate and deter people from making a contribution to public service and progress. Our thoughts are with the family of Ronan Kerr and with all those who are frightened and concerned by these actions. CRC is committed to ensuring that they will not succeed.”
