The Community Relations Council (CRC) has condemned the bombing in Derry this morning which damaged a bank, a hotel and several shops.
Duncan Morrow, CRC Chief Executive, said:
“This reckless attack on the commercial and tourist life of the city serves no purpose other than to try to spoil the hard work of very many people who have been trying to make it a better place to live and to visit.
This is a sustained attack on the promise of a shared and better future. At a time when Derry has been named as the City of Culture great strides are being made to establish reconciliation and community partnership as the benchmark for the future. The community and its political representatives are committed to making sure that there is no return to the violent conflict of the past.
The only response to the determination of a violent minority can be a redoubled commitment to a better future and support for those working to achieve it. Building trust has never been more important or urgent. “
