The Community Relations Council (CRC) has condemned a pipe bomb attack last night on the North Belfast home of a community relations worker who was recently honoured by a Community Relations Council Award for Exceptional Achievement.
Duncan Morrow, Chief Executive of the Community Relations Council, says:
‘This latest bomb attack on Mary Kelly is another direct assault on a person whose only offence is to have dedicated herself to helping the local community on both sides of the sectarian interface. She has been a courageous and selfless volunteer who has spent the last thirty years helping her neighbours. Her work has been widely acknowledged and praised on both sides of the community.’
‘As a result of this attack Mary Kelly may be forced to leave her home. This is a disgraceful outcome in a society that is meant to be moving towards peace and is a shame for us all. Those responsible need to desist and seriously consider where their actions are taking us. If not, we will be forced into an environment of conflict, confrontation and tougher security. We do not need to relive this misery.’
