The Community Relations Council warmly welcomes the comments of the newly installed moderator of the Presbyterian Church on the vital importance of acknowledging and addressing ongoing sectarianism.
The Council particularly endorses Dr Hamilton’s view that this is a matter for wide civic engagement and urges the Executive to develop a thoughtful and serious community relations strategy.
Duncan Morrow, CRC Chief Executive, says
‘Sectarian division and hatred have deep and pernicious roots in this society. The Community Relations Council believes that the long-promised policy must set serious priorities, draw on all departments and ensure a robust and independent civic voice. In the absence of this commitment, sectarianism and racism will continue to blight lives, create tensions, embed poverty and undermine efforts to build a successful economy.'
