The Agreement between the DUP and Sinn Fein, endorsed today at Hillsborough Castle by the Prime Minister and the Taoiseach, has been welcomed by the Community Relations Council (CRC).
Duncan Morrow, CRC Chief Executive, said:
‘The devolution of Policing and Justice completes the process of enabling local people to take responsibility for their own affairs. With this must come an acknowledgement that local politicians need to show leadership in building a better and shared society.’
‘The additional elements of the Agreement dealing with parades, improving working relationships within the Executive and tackling the backlog of incomplete government business are also an important part of the deal and are also welcomed by CRC.’
‘This is not only a new beginning, it is also our last and best chance to ensure that government works to lead and support the development of the shared and better future which has been so long promised and has taken such a long time to deliver. CRC looks forward to working with all parties and people of good will in this vital and exciting project.’
