The murder attempt on a police officer this morning in Randalstown is totally condemned by the Community Relations Council (CRC).
CRC Chief Executive Duncan Morrow comments:
‘The Community Relations Council is appalled and distressed by the car bomb attack on a police officer, particularly in the vicinity of the previous fatal shooting of two soldiers in 2009. Our thoughts are with the family of the officer at this time.’
CRC Chairman Tony McCusker added:
‘The Community Relations Council does not believe that violence offers a way forward to a shared and better future. This attack does not represent the will of the community in any shape or form and, after all that the people of Northern Ireland have suffered over the last 40 years, it must not succeed in re-creating an atmosphere of community tension.
‘We call on our political leaders to find agreement on the devolution of policing and justice powers and to make a clear and unambiguous commitment to a shared and better future as the best response to this recent outrage.’
