Are you interested in a 'good news' story about individuals creating a framework for diversity and community relations in Northern Ireland? If so we have the event for you!
The Cultural Diversity Programme of the Community Relations Council, which exists to promote a positive awareness of the rich variety of culture within Northern Ireland, is today launching its annual scheme of Research Awards. Every year we invite applications from individuals to conduct original research on topics likely to promote the aims of the Programme. Successful projects are likely to result in resources which will promote informed debate on local cultural issues or contribute to practical community relations work. These may include non-fiction publications, web-sites, exhibitions, archival material or other media.
Applications from a wide range of disciplines and approaches are welcome, though candidates should have a proven background in research or the field most appropriate for the project.
The main themes for this year's fellowships include multiculturalism, religion, citizenship, sharing/segregation and the media, but other, broadly related topics are also eligible.
Come to the Posthouse Academy Hotel (opposite the BBC) on Thursday March 1st 2001 at 11am.
Journalist and member of the research advisory group Malachi O'Doherty, who will launch this year's research award competition, commented:
"I'm very pleased to be able to launch the new research awards. The Cultural Diversity Programme of CRC has run these awards for many years and they have produced many excellent resources as well as some fascinating research on Northern Ireland, its history and people. We have had and funded applications in the past as diverse as an accessible book on local archaeology and a children's A-Z based on the culture and landscape of Northern Ireland. We all look forward to receiving many new and exciting applications this year."
The closing date for applications is be 4pm, Friday March 23rd. For an application for and information pack contact Fiona Murray at the Community Relations Council, 6 Murray Street, Belfast, BT1 6DN (028) 90 227500.
