Peace III: Working in Partnership

16 November 2009

The PEACE III Theme 1.1 team from the Community Relations Council and Pobal held a workshop on Thursday 12th November for the District Council Peace Partnerships to discuss partnership working. Attendees gathered at the recently renovated Town Hall in Portrush and enjoyed a presentation by Jean Brown of Suffolk Lenadoon Interface Group who talked about the initial struggles in partnership working but the overall benefits. Jean commented that once a partnership is formed and sustained everything else can grow and be achieved from there.

The Council Staff and Partnership members partook in roundtable discussions on their involvement in the partnership and how they felt work was progressing. Staff from SEUPB were on hand to answer queries and discuss the aims of Phase 2 of the plans, which are proposed to commence in 2011.

Feedback from the event was positive, in particular the connection made between the PEACE III funds and work on the ground. Jean Brown’s  presentation was very well received with Council Staff commenting that hearing about the progress on the ground by Community workers “Takes you right to the heart of what we are supposed to be supporting/enhancing”. Bringing together Council staff and Community groups allows the aims and overall goals of PEACE III to become clear.
