The book of 100 Small Steps produced by the One Small Step Campaign includes examples of projects, initiatives and gestures taking place in communities across Northern Ireland to heal division and break down barriers. Senator George Mitchell wrote the book’s foreword. The book will be launched on Monday 13th October 08 at 7. 30 pm in the 174 Trust, North Belfast. Copies will be provided to libraries, schools and community groups.

    One of the clichés of the last ten years in Northern Ireland is that the peace process is stronger and deeper than the political process. At the very least, this has to mean that the failure of politics to produce agreement on a shared constitution does not mean that there is an appetite for violence and killing, bombing and shooting as a way to resolve disputes. Even without political agreement on a way forward, there is nearly unanimous agreement that we must not go back. Despite years of polarisation and segregation, the bottom line is that there really is no alternative to sharing the future together.

The event is part of "Community Relations Week," which runs from March 7-13 with events across Northern Ireland.

  • Victims and Survivors Conference - "Serving Victims, Serving the Community"

    The Community Relations Council, with funding support from the Victims Unit, has organised a residential conference for 7th and 8th of March 2005 for groups working with victims and survivors of the NI Troubles. This conference entitled ”Serving Victims, Serving the Community” is aimed at providing space for funded groups to focus on the current issues that affect them in Northern Ireland and gives them an opportunity to reflect on their work and network with other groups. The conference is taking place at Hilton Hotel in Templepatrick.

  • Anti-Racism in the Workplace Week

    The Community Relations Council recognises that racism is as big a problem as sectarianism in Northern Ireland and supports the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, the Irish Business and Employers' Confederation, the Construction Industry Federation and the Equality Authority in their Anti-Racist Workplace Week campaign. The week runs from November 4th - 8th 2002.

    The Community Relations Council is hosting a major conference tomorrow (Wednesday 22 October) on peacebuilding for community relations activists in Northern Ireland. The guest speaker is the renowned international expert on conciliation and mediation, John Paul Lederach.

The Review Group includes representation from the Victims Unit, OFMDFM and the Commission for Victims & Survivors, Community Relations Council members and members of the Core Funding Committee (Victims + Survivors).
