The Community Relations Council welcomes the trade union organised peace rallies held today around Northern Ireland to protest at the killings of members of the security forces carried out by republican dissidents.
Tony McCusker, Chair of the Community Relations Council, said:
“Today’s peace rallies have been an important public demonstration of solidarity against any reversion to the violence of the past. We need to encourage everyone in their daily lives to build on the gesture of these rallies so that peace is not taken for granted. The demonstrations must be followed by positive actions by civic society and public leaders to ensure that we remain focused on creating a better and shared future.”
