The Greater New Lodge CEP is organising a special week of events in the area entitled ‘Respect Week’. The Respect Week will run from Monday March 12th – Friday March 16th. There will be a focus on a wide range of important social issues touching on various subjects including race, sectarianism, age and gender, disability, human rights, the effects of conflict and the physical environment.

In organising the Respect Week the CEP wants to encourage open debate, raise awareness and widen horizons on issues that are important both within this community and throughout wider society. The ultimate intention is to positively contribute to the development of a culture of respect where all individuals regardless of race, creed, gender, age or disability are treated as equals and can live, work and socialise together in harmony.
Respecting the Little Children - Sponsored Walk on behalf of Dylan Dicks Appeal - 12noon
Artillery Youth Centre
Organised by the Young Parents Group of Artillery Youth Centre on behalf of the family of Dylan Dicks who has Tay Sachs disease. Will leave Artillery at 12noon on Saturday 10th March. This event is open to everyone for information or sponsor forms contact Artillery Youth Centre on 90351332.

The recently re-developed Hartwell Place Triangle area and the Dawson Street. Garden will be officially launched. Everyone welcome. Assemble corner of Hartwell Place and New Lodge Rd.
Respecting Each Other - 3.30pm
North Queen St Community Centre (The Recy)
Ashton After Schools Club in partnership with other projects in the area will offer a presentation and discussion on the theme ‘Respecting Differences’. The event will include a film show, puppet show and other relevant events. Suitable for children aged 3 – 11yr olds. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Food and refreshments will be available. All welcome.
Rosa Parks Film - 7.00 pm
Star Neighbourhood Centre
This film portraying the life of Rosa Parks Rosa Parks, the woman whose 1955 protest action in Alabama marked the start of the modern US civil rights movement, will be shown in the Star Neighbourhood Centre and will be a ticket only event. Living on the Interface Project 11.00am
Ground Work NI, Duncairn Gardens
North Belfast Interface Network Project presents a video about the experiences of people living on the interfaces. People from both sides of the interface tell their story. Guest speaker Dr Pete Shirlow (Queens University Belfast).

Assemble New Lodge Housing Forum
Respect our community environment by keeping it clean and tidy. Volunteers should assemble at the New Lodge Housing Office 23 New Lodge Road. All residents welcome, wear suitable clothing.
St. Patrick’s Day Art and Craft workshop 7 – 9pm
New Lodge Youth Centre (Grey Gables)
New Lodge Arts in partnership with the Beat Initiative are running an arts and crafts workshop in preparation for the St. Patrick’s Day Carnival Parade. Open to all local children. Everyone welcome. Youth workers and young people from Grey Gables will also be making St. Patrick’s Day decorations for the Senior Citizen’s Group in St. Kevin’s Hall.

Respecting the views of young people (young peoples input to the New Lodge Festival). The Greater New Lodge Youth Forum is hosting its 4th Youth Jury, the statement on trial is “The New Lodge Festival does not meet the needs of young people”. The Youth Jury will be made up of young people from the local area and the panel will be representative of the New Lodge Festival Committee and young people.
Promoting Human Rights and Equality, Launch of Rosa Parks Mural 11.00 am

Tar Isteach Youth Group, as part of the Greater New Lodge Community Empowerment Partnership ‘Respect Week’, is remembering the great civil rights activist Rosa Parks by holding a celebratory event and erecting a mural in her honour. Keynote Speaker: Inez McCormack. The official unveiling of the mural will then take place at the Tar Isteach building in Hillman St. at around 12.15pm. Lunch will be served at the Star Neighbourhood Centre. Everyone welcome.
Samba Drums 7.00pm – 9.00pm
North Queen Street Community Centre
This New Lodge Taster Session in Samba drumming is being delivered by the Beat Initiative and will take place in the minor hall of North Queen Street Community Centre (Recy) on Wednesday 14th March from 7pm – 9pm. The aim of the taster session will be to recruit young people (11+ years) to join a cross cultural, cross community North Belfast wide samba drumming group.
‘Lets Talk’ Panel Discussion – ‘What Respect Means To Me’ 7.00 pm – 8.30 pm

Chairperson John Loughran from ‘Providing Leadership Project’ The panel will contain a disabled person, a member of the Indian community, older person, a young person, local man and woman who will give their personal views on what respect means to them. Followed by question and answer session.

The Greater New Lodge CEP would like to invite any women and women's groups in the local area as part of the "Respect Week" to a "Women's Night". Guest Speaker Catherine McHugh, Life Coach giving a talk on Respect and Women - Buffet supper & video of "The Good old Days" featuring local residents will be shown. 9.00pm Disco 11.30pm Close. Admittance to this informative, fun and entertaining event is free & you can bring your own liquid refreshments. All women are welcome!

Inter-Generational Respect - Senior Citizens Dinner - 6.30 pm

Members of the Star Youth Club are making a dinner for the Star senior citizens group. Another group of young people from the Star will also perform a drama for the senior citizens.
Remembrance Ceremony - 7.00 pm
New Lodge Memorial Garden
This event is being run in conjunction with the New Lodge Memorial Committee and provides an opportunity for the people of the Greater New Lodge to show their respect not only for the suffering of local families but to acknowledge the pain of everyone who have lost their loved ones as a result of the armed conflict in Ireland. It will be open to all people and will involve the laying of candles at the garden representing each year since the conflict began in 1969 until the present day. Everyone welcome.
