The Institute of Community Cohesion is re-launching the University of Coventry’s highly regarded series of Postgraduate qualifications for professional and practitioners working on community relations and cohesion starting March 2012. They will be of interest to anyone working or seeking to work in a community-focused organisation or relevant public service sector.
These courses are designed to improve your organisational performance and personal effectiveness in identifying what brings communities together and fosters cohesion. Building on your existing knowledge of working with your local community, each course will ensure you develop a deeper understanding of the issues relevant to your role, enabling you to make a significant strategic contribution to community relations and specific projects in your area of expertise.
All the assignments and projects address real life issues and involve action plans to guide you as an individual and your organisation in achieving agreed goals. Courses are developed specifically for part-time participants for whom community relations are a significant role or responsibility.
The key features of this suite of courses are derived from the dual benefits associated with work-based projects. These are designed to benefit you, your employer and your community:
• You will benefit from overlap between work and study
• Employers benefit from completion of assignments linked to organisational performance
• Course attendance involves a minimum time away from the workplace
• A qualification can be awarded after each year of study (for instance, an MA can be completed in one year for applicants who hold the necessary prerequisites)
• Course assessment is by coursework only
