Members of the Policing Board’s Human Rights and Professional Standards (HRPS) Committee recently met with representatives from the Parades Commission and ACC Finlay, PSNI.
Discussions focused around the processes involved in issuing determinations on parades including how evidence is presented by the police and the level of community consultation undertaken by the Commission. ACC Finlay also outlined progress with the on-going review into public order policing.
Speaking about the meeting Ryan Feeney, Vice Chair of the HRPS Committee said:
“Parading issues continue to be a priority for the Board and this meeting gave Members the opportunity to discuss areas of mutual interest with representatives from the Commission and the PSNI.
Communication with the police across Districts and the Commission’s level of engagement with community groups and other key stakeholders such as the Public Prosecution Service were also discussed.
The Committee also received an update from ACC Finlay on the in-depth review into the public order policing response currently being conducted by the PSNI.
Members welcomed on-going discussions between the Commission and the PSNI on the issues raised at this meeting and agreed a future Committee meeting be arranged to discuss any progress.”
