Ulster Bank Sir George Quigley Awards

Launched in April 2002, the Ulster Bank Sir George Quigley Award recognises the contribution of Sir George Quigley over 13 years as Chairman of Ulster Bank Group. The award fund, managed by The Community Foundation for Northern Ireland, is available throughout Ireland and aims to help the community and voluntary sector reach sustainability.

Applicants should demonstrate how the award will:

 1. Enable them to develop and/or implement a strategyfor organisational sustainability

 2. Learn from the experience and share this with others

Applications are invited from organisations within the community and voluntary sector working within Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, or on a cross-border basis.

What will be supported?

Guidelines for examples of work that can be considered for the Award are:

  • The development of community business
  • New community and voluntary based approaches to the social economy
  • New ideas that offer the community and voluntary sector strategies for organisational sustainability

Funding for feasibility reports, salary costs or ongoing running/programme costs will not be considered.

The Award

Award: €10,000 or Sterling equivalent to implement your plans, alongside public recognition of your achievement.

  • How the grant will contribute to the sustainability of the project  
  • What learning will be derived from the project and how will this benefit other organisations
  • Who will be involved in the design and implementation of the project?

The application closing date is September 23 2011.

What will happen next

  • All applications will be acknowledged in writing.
  • Further information may be required from the applicant.
  • The Advisory Panel assesses all proposals on an annual basis.
  • The decision of the panel and the sponsors of the Award is final.
  • The Award will be presented at a ceremony in October and work on the sustainability initiative should begin shortly after.
