Introduction to the UN International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) - workshop
21 March, 12-3.30pm, Bank House Hotel, Dungannon
The International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) is a human rights instrument of which the UK is a signatory. The Convention commits its members to the elimination of racial discrimination and the promotion of understanding among all races.
The Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is the UN body which monitors compliance by UN countries to the Convention. All countries have to regularly report on the ways in which they meet the requirements of this Convention, and the UK is due to be examined by the Committee in August 2011. This new half-day workshop aims to:
explain ICERD and the work of the Committee
examine the UK State report and explore how organisations can engage with the Committee, and
build the capacity of organisations and individuals working against racial discrimination to contribute to this examination.
To book a place, please contact Charlene Craig, email: events@nihrc.org or tel: (028) 9024 3987 before Monday 14 March.
Let us know if you have any access or dietary needs. We will give priority to organisations working against racial discrimination who would like to send their own response to the Committee.
