Explore 2011 ‘Young people leading change’

The Spirit of Enniskillen Trust (SOE) is now open for applications for the ‘Explore 2011’ leadership programme from young people between the ages of 16 to 19 and resident in Northern Ireland. The final closing date for applications is Friday 14^th January 2011.

Through the Explore 2011 programme forty young participants will travel to overseas projects four different destinations across Europe where they will work alongside others coming from diverse and conflicting backgrounds. As well as learning through the discussion of difficult issues that divide communities, the work is balanced with enjoyment, social activities and fun. In exploring how these regions are dealing with their differences, participants will also be encouraged to develop the skills necessary to lead dialogue and learning within their own communities at home. Explore is fully accredited through the Open College Network NI.

This programme is an excellent and well respected opportunity for young people to learn more about themselves and others and to broaden their horizons on life generally. On their return the SOE provides well-structured programmes where participants can continue to make their own civic contribution back to their school, community or youth club.

To maintain a balance from across the community, the SOE will particularly welcome applications of those coming from marginalised and disadvantaged backgrounds.
