This summer, Enniskillen Castle Museums are hosting a series of events to celebrate the variety of cultures within County Fermanagh. These events coincide with the summer exhibition entitled ‘Our people Our Times’ which includes stories and objects from people of different cultural backgrounds who have settled in and around Fermanagh. A programme of special events such as food tastings, dance workshops, traditional arts and crafts, music, and myths, legends & tales will be held throughout the summer culminating in the super annual Family Fun Day on Bank Holiday 28 August.
Stories from Around the World Sat 24 June, 2.30 – 4.00pm
Storytelling for children including tales from Africa, India, China, Europe and the Americas. Hosted by renowned local storyteller Bernadette Layden.
Henna Hand Painting Sat 1 July, 2.30 – 4.00pm
Come and have your hand painted with Mendhi designs.
Basics of Bangra Workshop Sat 8 July: 2.30 – 3.00pm, 3.00 – 3.30pm and 3.30 – 4.00pm
Find out about this style of Indian folk dance, its music and costume. Learn some of the steps and talk art in a dance. Each session lasts 30 minutes.
Traditional Irish Music Workshop Sat 22 July , 2.30 – 4.00pm
Local musician Jim McGrath leads a session of traditional Irish music. The musicians will also explain some of the instruments and techniques associated with traditional music.
Rongoli Workshop Sat 12 August, 2.30 – 4.00pm
A rongoli is a colourful design made on the floor from rice, coloured chalk or petals. Rangoli patterns are drawn during the Hindu Festival of Divali. See colourful rongoli patterns and create your own rongoli design in this workshop.
UlsterScots Music and Dancing Sat 19 August, 2.30 – 4.00pm
Come and see the Highland Dances. A selection of Scottish Country dancing, piping and drumming.
Multicultural Activities by Women of the World. Sat 26 August, 2.30 – 4.00pm
Fun for all the family, including: storytelling, costumes from around the world and art activities.
Free Family Fun Day Bank Holiday Monday, 28 August, 2pm – 5pm
An afternoon of fun and culture for all the family. Enjoy a celebration of Fermanagh's traditions and multiculturalism with performances of Chinese Lion and Unicorn dance, Indian foods and crafts, Maori dance workshops, arts & crafts, Irish traditional music and other fun family entertainment.
