Boyd backs show bigotry the red card

19 November 2010

THE Irish Football Association’s Head of Community Relations, Michael Boyd, is participating tonight in an evening of debate around the issue of sectarianism with supporters, community groups and Scottish football stars, Michael Weir, Gary MacKay and Derek Ferguson at Spartans Football Club in Edinburgh as part of the Rivals Not Enemies Show Bigotry The Red Card initiative.

Michael who has spearheaded the Irish FA’s Football For All Community Relations campaign working in partnership with Irish FA staff and Northern Ireland fans transforming the atmosphere at Northern Ireland international games said: “I feel honoured to be invited over to Scotland and look forward to learning new ideas which will help our Football For All project.  Everyone in football has a role to play challenging bigotry and it is great to see former players backing the Show Bigotry The Red Card message.”

Scottish Premier League stars and Northern Ireland internationals, Stephen Craigan, Niall McGinn and Andrew Little have all played high profile roles backing the Irish FA’s EU funded anti-sectarian Football For All campaign in recent years
