Youth 52 PEACE III Programme: Conference to celebrate success

21 September 2010

Supported by the European Union's PEACE III Programme, managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by the Community Relations Council/Pobal consortium, this project is being delivered over a 3-year period 2009-2011.

Inishowen Development Partnership and Farset Youth and Community are the principal partners in this cross-community cross-border project aimed at acknowledging and dealing with the past.

The project brings young people together to explore their common history, diverse cultures, and aspirations for the future, through a series of workshops, presentations, and outdoor pursuits. The central aspect of the project will be for every group to participate in the OCN Level 1 accredited Conflict Transformation and the Messines Experience Programme.

This uses Irelands experience in WW1, and the brotherhood that arose between Irishmen on the Western Front to forge new relationships and new hope for our common future. On return the young people will engage in a peer education project, and ongoing contact with the other communities with whom they will have worked.

The overall aim of this project is to forge lasting relationships between young people and youth workers from different traditions on this Island who would not otherwise have the opportunity to meet and work together. These relationships will contribute to the peaceful and stable society that we wish to see on this Island.

We will do this by using models of best practice that we already know to be successful and facilitate a growing understanding between each group over a long period of time. On Saturday 25th September young people will partake in the Youth 52 Annual Seminar with Presentation of Certificates and sharing of learning experiences.  This will be held in Buncrana Youth Club from 12.30pm – 3.00pm for more information contact Youth 52 Development Worker, Bronagh McMonagle at 00353-7493-62218 or Sharon Skillen at 00447707397526.
