Text Box: “Cartoons in Conflict”

This exhibition, created by The Parents Circle - Families Forum, has travelled widely throughout the world & comes to Northern Ireland immediately following a showing @ the Edinburgh Festival.

The Parents Circle - Families Forum is a grassroots organization based in the Middle East, whose power stems from the collaborative reconciliation work of its members- more than 500 families, half Israeli & half Palestinian- who lost a family member in the conflict.

Famous Cartoonists from around the world; China, Japan, Cuba, U.S.A., Thailand, Belgium, Germany, Spain, South Africa & elsewhere contributed to this exhibition.  Artists like Donnely, Oliphant, No-Rio, Plantu, Zapiro, Wilcox, El-Roto & Bromley, contributed a specially created piece reflecting the absurdity of violent conflict.

Curating the Exhibition was a challenge, as caricatures by their very nature can be abusive & extreme, funny & painful, nevertheless the Parents Circle- Families Forum agreed to show all of these works in order to illustrate the absurdity of violent conflict.

The Parents Circle - Families Forum always send a Palestinian & an Israeli member of their group with the exhibition & we are delighted that Robi Damelin & Seham Ikhlayel will be here to share their stories, experiences & hopes with us.

Text Box: We also encourage you to participate in one of the accompanying dialogue sessions which will concentrate on themes such as living in divided societies, healing & remembering, justice & forgiveness, sectarianism & racism Text Box: We in Community Dialogue hope that you can join us @ one of the launches where Robi & Seham will make an opening address & light refreshments will be served
