Raising the Dragon, Belfast City Carnival, 19th June

20 May 2010

This year's Carnival will feature The Chinese Dragon for the first time. This is a partnership between The Beat Carnival and Chinese Welfare Association with training support from Alan Lui, Success Lion Dance and Chang Hai Zhu, Wu Shu Tai Chi.

We need your help to 'Raise the Dragon!'  We are looking for groups of 9 people to weave in and out of the street procession.  Each group will pass the Dragon to another to complete the route to the City Hall.  We need your help to help us raise this fantastic Dragon, which has never featured in Northern Ireland before!  We need groups or individuals age 15+ for the Dragon. Each group will receive 2 training sessions in the Dragon dance performance.

This is a fantastic opportunity to participate in The Belfast City Carnival as a team with your staff and volunteers.
In addition,  CWA has secured some wonderful minority ethnic Chinese costumes all the way from China for theCarnival.  (China has over 56 minority groups)  The exquisite costumes will suit schools or youth groups.
Interested?  Please contact workshops@beatcarnival.com or 028 90 434 767 for more information and to sign up!

This project is supported by The Legacy Trust UK, Belfast City Council, Arts Council Northern Ireland and CommunityRelations Council.
