Lurgan Youth Reach Project

To celebrate Community Relations Week in Lurgan, the Youth Reach Project based in the Jethro Centre held a Resource Fair for young people from three local high schools in Lurgan.

Thursday  29th April  saw the Youth Reach Project Resource Fair  take place at the Jethro Centre in  Lurgan .

The event which was attended by 170 young people and local representatives highlighted the quality and quantity of youth provision in the Lurgan area.   Displays from local youth providers including Lurgan Youth Annexe, SELB Youth Services, Taghnevan Youth Club, Clann Eireann Youth Centre, Links Project, Youth Reach Project as well as displays by Investing in Our Future and Community Relations Council/International Fund for Ireland.

Richard DoughertyDevelopment Officer for the Youth Reach Project said “today is about celebrating the wide variety of youth provision in Lurgan and empowering young people to get involved in youth services in the town”.

Also on display at the event was a 3D model of Lurgan which was produced by young people from both protestant and catholic communities.

Community Relations Week, organised by the Community Relations Council ran from April 26 to May 2 and is the biggest week in the community relations calendar involving 150 events and thousands of people throughout Northern Ireland.

The theme for the week is the role of young people in building a shared society, with the strapline Time to Change the Conversation

Tony McCusker, Chairman of the Community Relations Council which devised and co-ordinates Community Relations Week every year says: “This week has become a vital means by which the work of those in the community relations sector is communicated to, and recognised, by a wider audience. It is only one week in the year, but it highlights the important work of this sector that takes place throughout the year.”
