The Northern Ireland Community Relations Council would like to invite a representative(s) from your organisation to attend a seminar – “Ethical Remembering: Commemorating a Decade of Change”.

Between 1912 &1922 significant events took place in Ireland that shaped the rest of the 20^th century to the present. The centenaries of these defining moments will be commemorated between 2012 & 2022. It was a decade of change. How will we commemorate in a new and different political and global context? The idea of ethical remembering will be explored and how we ask critical questions of the past, present and future.

Johnston McMaster is a lecturer and co-ordinator of the Education for Reconciliation programme, Irish School of Ecumenics, Belfast. His doctorate is from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, Evanston, USA on Methodist Stewardship in Irish Politics. The research was interdisciplinary including history, theology and politics and critically examined the period from the first Home Rule Bill of 1886 to the Anglo-Irish Agreement of 1985. Dr McMaster’s areas of interest and on-going research include reconciliation and peacebuilding, socio-political hermeneutics, empire studies, faith after Christendom, Celtic Christianity and spirituality, ethical remembering, social ethics and inter-faith dialogue.
