An exciting cultural diversity project has just been launched by National Museums Northern Ireland. Rhythms of the Year is Northern Ireland’s project for the major Cultural Olympiad initiative, ‘Stories of the World’. It will showcase the seasonal celebrations of our multi-cultural society.
The project's online gallery is now live, and you can join in by emailing photographs that show your favourite seasonal celebrations or times of year. From Holi to Hallowe'en to Hanukkah, (and everything in between), we want to explore how the people of Northern Ireland commemorate important occasions in their Life Calendars. Between 26 September 2009 and 31 October 2010, we will host an online gallery dedicated to the passing seasons and the ways these are celebrated and enjoyed in Northern Ireland by our diverse community. A selection of photographs taken between these dates will form a touring exhibition that will visit a range of venues throughout Northern Ireland. The online gallery will also become a record of a year of celebration in Northern Ireland in the run up to the London Olympics, 2012. To view the online gallery please go to www.nmni.com/Home/Rhythms-of-the-Year
The project also provides several ways for people aged between 14 and 25 to engage with National Museums Northern Ireland, and we are developing a Youth Forum for the project. If you would like to find out more, please contact me or Linda Ballard (linda.ballard@nmni.com).
If you have any other questions about the project, and how members of your organisation can get involved, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Best Wishes,
Hannah
