02 June 2009

Alongside the key results tables, you will be able to freely access the survey questionnaire, the SPSS dataset, a technical report of the survey and a results summary leaflet that was sent out as a feedback to respondents to the survey, if requested.

The YLT survey is an annual survey of 16-year olds living in Northern Ireland. The two main subject areas covered by the 2008 YLT survey were:

  1. Attitudes to, and experience of contact with, minority ethnic groups (The questions were asked  as part of a mixed-methods project undertaken together with the National Children’s Bureau and funded by OFMDFM); and
  2. Emotional and mental health and self-harm (This module was funded by the Nuffield Foundation)

Other questions covered the following areas:

  • Community Relations;
  • Identity;
  • Experiences of, and social pressures to engage in, drinking alcohol, taking drugs, losing weight and having sex;
  • Informal caring;
  • School bullying.
