The Community Relations Council (CRC) condemns the fatal shooting of a PSNI officer in Craigavon yesterday.
CRC Chair Tony McCusker said:
“Coming after the Real IRA’s killing at the weekend of two soldiers this new attack on the PSNI casts a dark shadow over Northern Ireland. Our sympathy goes to the family of the officer killed.
There is a need for everyone to be united against these killings and to stand firm against any return to sectarianism. For many years the Community Relations Council has been actively engaged in supporting communities, supporting sharing and supporting victims. Further progress towards creating a Shared Future must not be undermined by a return to the futility of violence. While those involved in perpetrating these latest attacks may be small in number there is a need for us all to make clear that any return to violent conflict is not simply unacceptable but also unthinkable.”
