The Community Relations Council has condemned the threats issued this week against community workers and called for them to be withdrawn.
Chief Executive Duncan Morrow said
'The Community Relations Council is horrified by the threats issued against community workers in North Belfast by the Continuity IRA. In recent years, community workers and their organisations, many of them supported by CRC, have made real efforts to build a shared and better future. It now appears that these very efforts are being used as a spurious 'justification' for threatening murder and a renewal of violence.'
'Aside from the inhumanity of the threat and the ruthlessness of the tactics, these chilling warnings serve to remind people of the alternative to progress towards a peaceful, equal and shared future here and of the courage and bravery required from many people in moving forward.’
