Ashfield Boys Back Football For All

25 September 2008

Year Twelve Students from Ashfield Boys High School in East Belfast are throwing their weight behind the IFA’s Football For All Campaign, which aims to make the sport of football more inclusive.

The Students plan to do a presentation to the Year Eight Students on the merits of Football For All, highlighting how the sport of Football can be used to tackle racism, sectarianism and bigotry. Later in the year they plan to hold a Football For All Cross Community Primary School competition involving eight Primary Schools from across Belfast.

IFA Head of Community Relations, Michael Boyd, spoke to the Students this week about how Football can be used in a positive way to challenge sectarianism and answered questions on the IFA’s Football For All Campaign.

“Ashfield Boys High School’s support for our Football For All Campaign over the last couple of years has been superb. We have held a series of Anti-Sectarian and Anti-Racism workshops at the School over the last two years. Furthermore, in June this year, Lower Sixth Form Student, Matthew Brown, received a Football For All (FFA) Community Relations Unsung Hero Award at our FFA Awards Night for his MASIF (Movement Against Sectarianism in Football) Project to improve Good Relations in the Irish League. In many ways I am sure Matthew has inspired this year’s Year Twelve Students to get behind our Football For All Campaign”.
