AN ETHIC FOR ENEMIES
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT, APOLOGY AND REMEMBRANCE
AFTER CONFLICT
SPEAKER: DONALD W SHRIVER JR
TUESDAY 16 OCTOBER
SPIRES CONFERENCE CENTRE, FISHERWICK PLACE, BELFAST
7.30 -- 9.00 PM
(COFFEE AND TEA AVAILABLE FROM 7.15 PM)

Donald W Shriver Jr is President Emeritus of Union Theological College, New York. For many years he has wrestled with critical questions for our times: How to remember and acknowledge an unjust and disturbing past?
How do we ensure that the past becomes a platform from which to move to a future where societies are committed to addressing poverty,
acknowledging discrimination and working for social justice . Remembering, in this view, is a critical inter-generational responsibility. Institutions have a civic duty to acknowledge the past and promote a more just and inclusive future. Dr Shriver will draw on his experiences
in the United States after Civil Rights and on his reflections on US-German reconciliation and the challenges of remembering in post apartheid South Africa.

The lecture is open to all
