7th March 2005
Victims + Survivors Conference – “Serving Victims, Serving the Community”
The Community Relations Council, with funding support from the Victims Unit, has organised a residential conference for 7th and 8th of March 2005 for groups working with victims and survivors of the NI Troubles. This conference entitled ”Serving Victims, Serving the Community” is aimed at providing space for funded groups to focus on the current issues that affect them in Northern Ireland and gives them an opportunity to reflect on their work and network with other groups. The conference is taking place at Hilton Hotel in Templepatrick.
Speaking about the conference the Council Chairman Eamonn McCartan said “It is fitting that this conference is one of the first events to mark the beginning of Community Relations week as the victims sector not only has a role in healing the wounds of the past but also can provide leadership in how our community can begin to build a peaceful future for all”.
There will be over 130 participants at the residential conference drawn from local groups and organisations active in work supporting victims and survivors. Workshops will be addressing themes such as: Standards for Good Practice, Suicide Awareness, Truth & Justice – Human Rights, Trauma and Faith and Meditation and Complementary Therapies.
