Cultural Diversity Research Awards 2002

22nd January 2002

The Community Relations Council is inviting applications for its annual Research Awards. These are available on research topics which will promote the aims of the Council's Cultural Diversity Programme. This year the suggested themes are Equality, Religion and Segregation, although other broadly related topics will also be considered.

This is the tenth year of the Award Scheme, and research resulting from the awards is likely to lead to the production of resources which will promote informed debate on local cultural diversity issues or contribute to practical community relations work. These may include non-fiction publications, web-sites, exhibitions, archival material or other media.

Applications from a wide range of disciplines and approaches are welcome, though candidates should have a proven background in research or the field most appropriate for the project.

The launch will take place at the Council's Offices at 6 Murray Street, Belfast on Thursday 7th February 2002 at 11am.

Chairman of the Community Relations Council, Dr Jonathan Bardon, who will launch this year's research award competition, commented:

I'm very pleased to be able to launch the new research awards. The Cultural Diversity Programme of CRC has run these awards for many years and they have produced many excellent resources as well as some fascinating research on Northern Ireland, its history and people. We have had, and funded, applications in the past as diverse as an accessible book on local archaeology and a children's A-Z handbook based on the culture and landscape of Northern Ireland. We all look forward to receiving many new and exciting applications this year.

The closing date for applications is 4pm, Friday March 1st. For an application form and information pack contact Tony Langlois at the Community Relations Council, 6 Murray Street, Belfast, BT1 6DN, (028) 90 227500 or see the CRC website at
