Community Relations Council

Council Members

Chair: Tony McCusker, retired civil servant who in the late 1980’s as a member of the Central Community Relations Unit (CCRU) at Stormont was involved in setting up the Community Relations Council. He served in a number of other posts in the civil service dealing with both community and economic issues and was adviser to Mo Mowlam and subsequently Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Department of Agriculture.

Since retirement he has been active in youth and community work ;

James Deery, a community development worker with the Ashton Community Trust in North Belfast;

Stephen Farry, Alliance Party MLA for North Down and currently Mayor of North Down Borough Council;

Hazel Francey, a senior official of Belfast City Council where she is currently the Good Relations Manager;

Eileen Gallagher, Co-Chair of Fermanagh Churches Forum;

Billy Gamble, retired civil servant, formerly Head of Good Relations and Reconciliation Division of OFMDFM;

Sylvia Gordon, Development Manager at Groundwork NI where she is attempting to deliver community cohesion through environmental regeneration;

Katie Hanlon, Director of Ballynafeigh Community Development Association in South Belfast;

Maureen Hetherington, Director, The Junction, Community Relations Resource Centre, L'Derry;

Tony Kennedy, OBE, Chief Executive of Cooperation Ireland

Dr Leon Litvack, Reader in Victorian Studies at the School of English, Queen's University and regular BBC Religious Affairs presenter;

Rosaleen McCorley, a republican ex-prisoner and until recently an Outreach co-ordinator with Coiste na nIarchimi, and now a Sinn Fein political adviser;

Stella McDermott, Casework Manager with the Heritage Lottery Fund in Northern Ireland;

Sinead McShane, Youth Officer, Southern Education and Library Board;

Hassan Sami Mansour, Administrator, Belfast Islamic Centre;

Robin Morton, retired Belfast Telegraph journalist (and former acting Business Editor);

Eamonn Oakes, a former Chair of the Northern Ireland Committee of ICTU and currently  project manager for City Bridges which trains senior trade union representatives on peace and reconciliation;

David Porter, Director of the Centre for Contemporary Christianity in Ireland;

Dr David Russell, Head of Communications and Education at the NI Human Rights Commission;
